About Us
46 years working for the welfare of the economically backward.
Founded in 1979 as a platform for local athletes, VKM opened a Balwadi in 1987 after strong community response, and later expanded into medical camps and NACO-aligned HIV-AIDS prevention programmes across Mumbai's suburbs and Maharashtra districts. VKM is registered with Guidestar India (CC Reg. 708) and is a Credibility Alliance member.

Five targeted interventions.
UDAY
Prevention of parent-to-child transmission of HIV, through antenatal testing and counselling.
KIRAN
A parallel parent-to-child transmission prevention programme reaching further communities.
AASTHA
Health outreach and testing for women working in Mumbai's bars and nightlife-adjacent trades.
DISHA
A targeted intervention offering outreach, testing and support for female sex workers.
SIGNAL
HIV-AIDS awareness and outreach for long-route truck drivers on Mumbai-Maharashtra highways.

1979
A platform for sport
VKM is founded to give budding athletes in Mumbai a place to train and compete.
1987
A Balwadi opens
Community response leads VKM to open its first early-childhood education centre.
2000s–
Health, at scale
Medical camps and HIV-AIDS prevention programmes expand across Mumbai and Maharashtra.
A sixth initiative, under construction
HOPE — Help Old People Emotionally.
Alongside our five NACO-aligned programmes, VKM is building a dedicated home at our Sai Hill campus offering free care and companionship to destitute and elderly citizens who have no one else to turn to.

The completed home will give homebound and destitute seniors a safe, dignified place to live, with on-site care — free of cost, funded entirely by donations and community support.
Construction is underway floor by floor. VKM's regular donation appeals — in both English and Marathi — ask the community to help complete the interiors and furnish the home for its first residents.

The Sai Hill campus is also home to the Nutan Ganesh Mandir, shown here decorated for the ongoing consecration of the shrine — part of the same campus where the HOPE elder-care home is being built.
